Do you think HALF is enough or too little? HALF is already self-consisted but not accomplished yet; HALF is the midway, but the whole distance is still uncovered. HALF is just one side of a coin. HALF is the center of an hour. HALF is a disturbing feeling in between duality and instability. It’s the anxious atmosphere of Thu Van Tran’s art. Thu Van Tran is a Vietnamese artist who was born in Ho Chi Minh City in 1979 but later moved to France, a former metropolitan country of French Indochina. Psychological and physical effects of the Vietnam War and colonial regime influenced greatly the artist’s mindset. It’s always been HALF political, HALF conceptual.

A seed HALF colonist HALF good?
“The hevea, the rubber tree, born out of a seed brought in and planted by the first French settlers who arrived in Vietnam in the early twentieth century. Symbol of a poisoned chalice considering the wealth and discord generated by its cultivation “ (Thu Van Tran)
From Green to Orange
The title refers to the colour-coded defoliants dropped on Vietnam by the U.S. military during the war.
